Taking good care of your teeth and gums is an important part of life. A beautiful smile not only looks good, but it is also an indicator of your overall health. Studies have shown that systemic illnesses, such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes, are directly linked to oral health complications like periodontal (gum) disease. At Enamel General and Cosmetic Dentistry, our goal is to help you maintain excellent oral health and improve your overall quality of life. Our services include preventive, restorative, cosmetic, and emergency dentistry. If you are in need of any professional dental treatment, you have come to the right place!
Maintaining good oral hygiene is vital if you want your teeth to stay strong, functional, and attractive. Apart from regular brushing and flossing, it is also necessary to keep your dental appointments with us regularly. You should visit us at least twice a year for a professional cleaning to ensure you have excellent dental hygiene and your teeth and surrounding structures are healthy.
The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends a routine check-up roughly twice a year. A routine appointment with our doctors will typically include a professional cleaning and a detailed examination of your teeth, gums, and other oral tissues. We may also recommend an oral cancer screening for our older patients.
Cancer screening can be a frightening scenario for some people, but it should not be. The truth is oral cancer screenings done consistently offer you the opportunity to discover problems early when they can be treated more easily and successfully. If you have questions about our oral cancer screening procedures, then please visit our office so our professional staff can guide you through the procedure.
Restorative dentistry is designed to fix any problems you may have with your teeth, gum tissues, jaw, and bone structure. We may recommend a dental filling to correct instances of minor or moderate decay. If the damage is substantial, you may need a dental crown. A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap that improves the function and aesthetics of the tooth. If the tooth is beyond saving, Dr. Kabaklian will perform a tooth extraction. Tooth loss is much more common than you may think. For this reason, we offer several replacement solutions, some of which include bridges, dental implants, and dentures.
Laser dentistry is a cutting-edge approach that utilizes advanced laser technology to perform a variety of dental procedures with precision and minimal discomfort. This innovative method allows for more efficient and less invasive treatments, reducing the need for anesthesia and promoting faster healing times. Ideal for both soft and hard tissue applications, laser dentistry can be used for procedures such as cavity treatment, gum reshaping, and teeth whitening. Experience a new level of comfort and care with our state-of-the-art laser dentistry services.
Dental fillings are the best way to restore minor to moderate instances of tooth decay. Most fillings these days consist of a material known as composite resin. Composite resin is an aesthetically-pleasing material that we color-match to the existing shade of your enamel. For this reason, a composite filling is virtually indistinguishable from the rest of your tooth.
A dental sealant is a thin, plastic coating that prevents cavities and tooth decay. Sealants are usually applied to the occlusal (bite) surface of the molars and premolars. These teeth possess deep grooves and fissures that are much harder to clean, especially for children and teenagers. Sometimes the grooves are so thin that the bristles of a toothbrush are rendered essentially ineffective. A sealant will provide a more even brushing surface and seal off the enamel from harmful bacteria. Preventing tooth decay will ensure your child's smile remains beautiful for years to come!
Your periodontal (gum) tissues are just as important as your teeth. Periodontal disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in the United States. Periodontal disease is the result of an infection in the gum tissues, connective ligaments, and eventually the alveolar bone.
The disease is characterized by gums that are swollen, red, and tend to bleed during brushing and flossing. Luckily, periodontal disease is easy to prevent and treat if it is caught early enough. If we notice signs of advanced periodontal disease, we may recommend a scaling and root planing procedure. The goal is to return your gums to a pink, healthy state.
A root canal is a last-ditch effort to save a tooth from extraction. We may recommend a root canal if an infection has spread to the "pulpy" center of the tooth that contains nerve endings and other connective tissues. Once the infection has been removed, we fill the canals with a rubber-like material known as gutta-percha. A tooth that has received root canal treatment typically needs to be capped with a crown.
The temporomandibular joint (TMJ), allows us to move our joint forwards, backward, and side-to-side. Any problems that prevent us from using this joint properly are known as TMD or temporomandibular joint disorders. We provide some treatments designed to alleviate any pain or discomfort associated with the TMJ.
There are two types of tooth extractions: simple and surgical. We perform a simple extraction on a tooth that has already erupted above the gumline. We perform a surgical extraction on a tooth that has become impacted, or has yet to erupt, such as wisdom teeth. Extraction may be necessary to prevent the spread of infection and other complications.
Do you dread going to the dentist? If so, Dr. Kabaklian and the dedicated team at Enamel General and Cosmetic Dentistry want to change that. They offer oral sedation at their welcoming offices in Newport Beach, Costa Mesa, Irvine, Santa Ana, and Huntington Beach, California. They have the means to help you both physically and mentally relax so going to the dentist is a calm and easy process.
Knowing what to do during a dental emergency can make the difference between saving and losing a tooth. If you have knocked out a tooth, be sure to schedule an appointment as soon as possible. If your tooth is re-implanted within the hour, the chances are strong that it will reattach to the socket. Dr. Kabaklian always leaves time open for emergency appointments. A chipped tooth, however, may not necessarily constitute a dental emergency. Severe pain is a clear indicator that you need immediate treatment. A crack or fracture may also indicate a serious problem.
Other General Services
Dental maintenance refers to dental work that focuses on services that are vital for your continued oral health. Preventive care, from regular checkups to brushing and flossing at home, is a big part of dental maintenance.
Periodontal maintenance is a deeper form of routine cleaning that our team offers to treat your periodontal symptoms. This maintenance occurs during your regularly scheduled exam and teeth cleaning. However, it is required in slightly more frequent intervals. The purpose of this maintenance is to ensure that your periodontal symptoms are treated sufficiently and do not worsen.
Gum contouring is a surgical procedure designed to give you a beautiful, even smile. When the gum heights on your teeth aren’t even or are too high or too low, your smile can look unbalanced. The team at Enamel General and Cosmetic Dentistry uses gum contouring surgery to ensure you have an even gumline at the proper height to help your teeth look their best.
Another thing we believe in at Enamel General and Cosmetic Dentistry is to use materials that are the most biocompatible with your body. A recent law has passed warning patients about mercury in amalgam fillings and Bis-GMA in white fillings. As your holistic dentist, we want every patient to be as safe as possible and that’s why we use Bis-GMA free white fillings. When we remove silver fillings we use an isolite which isolates your teeth from your throat so we don’t have the old filling material introduced to the patient's digestive system. This is one of the holistic things we do regularly at our dental office. We have also invested in the latest digital x rays to provide the lowest radiation possible to patients while being able to diagnose the smallest cavities. We believe that prevention is the best way to keep you healthy. Also staying consistent with your appointments make it easier to catch things before they become a problem. This ultimately makes the dreaded dentist appointment a pleasant experience.
The last thing we would like to talk about from a holistic standpoint is the water we use in the practice. As your primary dental office, we have invested in a reverse osmosis water filter which is hooked up to all the rooms to make sure the water going into your mouth during the cleanings and drilling is purified and free of bacteria, fungi, and heavy metals. We invest so much money in bottled water and at home purifiers so why should the dentist be any different!
