I Need a Bone Graft, Why?

Posted on 5/8/2023 by Joseph Kabaklian DDS
I Need a Bone Graft, Why?When a tooth is missing, the jawbone starts to retreat since there is no tooth to stimulate growth. It is fortunate that modern technology makes bone grafting for oral surgeons a simple procedure so that patients can keep their smiles for a long time. There are various reasons to use bone grafting: -

Tooth Missing

An extraction or an accidentally knocked-out tooth will require bone grafting. Dentists cannot place dental implants because the jawbone deteriorates over time when there is no tooth to support it. It is possible to restore and prevent jawbone loss with bone grafting, allowing patients to have a broader range of choices when restoring the missing tooth.

Gum Disease

Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, weakens the jawbone and can lead to losing teeth. It is lovely to know that there is a treatment for periodontal disease and that bone grafting can be used to provide a solid foundation for teeth.

When a patient loses a tooth, a dental implant is one of the first things they consider. For patients who have suffered from periodontal disease for a long time, bone grafting may be necessary to maintain dental implants.

Crooked Teeth

In some people, bone loss can be caused by improperly aligned teeth. Unless the teeth are realigned, the stimulation to the bone may gradually decrease if they over-erupt or are otherwise misaligned.

There are a variety of ways to straighten teeth, as well as numerous advantages to doing so. When the teeth are finally aligned again, bone grafting may still be necessary to ensure adequate support.

We offer major and small bone grafting procedures to benefit our patient's general oral health. There are many reasons why you should see an oral surgeon right away if you are suffering from any of the above conditions.
