How to Ensure Your Teeth Are Clean When You Travel
Posted on 2/20/2023 by Joseph Kabaklian DDS
Some of our patients travel for their jobs and tell us that it is difficult to maintain a regular dental routine as a result. However, we know that anyone, traveler, and non-traveler, can keep their teeth clean and healthy. Below are some tips for toothbrushing when you are on the road.
Cleaning Your Teeth When You Are Away from Home
Sometimes the best way to clean your teeth while traveling is to arm yourself with several travel toothbrushes. If you have to switch out rooms often, it is easier to carry several toothbrushes with you. If you are staying for a while in the same hotel, then you can leave your toothbrush, when you are not using it, in your room. Do not place it next to the sink, as it can get contaminated there. Find a place where it can thoroughly dry between brushings.
How to Get in the Routine of Regular Dental Care
Whether or not you are traveling, you should brush your teeth at least twice a day and floss at least once daily. Also, so to bed at the same time each night, or try to make an effort to do so. Developing regular habits is the key to staying on top of your dental health and keeping your teeth extra clean. Carry a small tube of toothpaste with you and a small bottle of mouthwash that does not contain alcohol. Keep your teeth cleaning supplies at the top of your travel bag, so they are easy to access.
What to Eat While Traveling
When you are traveling, also be cognizant about what you eat and make sure it is dental-friendly. Stay away from acidic foods or liquids, such as citrus, wine, or beer. When you eat out, choose fresh and healthy cuisine, such as baked fish, lean cuts of meat, and fresh fruits and vegetables. Stay away from foods that are processed and fried.
You can keep your teeth clean, whether or not you travel. You just need to follow a conscientious program of dental care. You should also schedule regular dental appointments. Give us a call today to schedule an exam and consultation.
